We walked this section completely, but separated in 3 parts (due to the transport constraints).
We walked the first part, from Zambujeiro to the Praia de Carvalhal, early in the morning. The sun was still rising. The walk starts at the chapel Nossa Segnora do Mar in Zambujeira. From there, it goes down to the beach of Zambujeira to go up again to the top of the cliffs. It passes a parking site for campers (we saw quite a few campers on great locations 'in the wild'). The trail continues inland trough a dune area and a wood, until you reach the beach of Carvalhal.
The middle part of the walk, between the beach of Carvalhal and Azenha do Mar, is extremely beautiful. The first part runs along narrow paths on top of the cliffs and offers stunning views of the bays, with deserted beached. Here and there a small stream ends with a cascading waterfall on the beach . The walk continues inland, around the private domain where once lived the fado singer Amalia Rodrigues . It passes a big raspberry farm. Along a babbling brook (and cascade), the path reaches the coast again. Until Azenha do Mar, it continues on top of the cliffs . Upon entering the village you will be greeted by a lot of stray dogs and cats. There's not much more live in the village, execpt for the local restaurant, where guests are queuing up for a place (we were there on a sunday). The restaurant is a little noisy, but the food is among the best we ate and by far the least expensive. For less than twenty euros we had a full meal, drinks included. The friendly waitress even warned us to order only one main course for the two of us : "you will not be able to it all !"
The last part of this trail goes first down via a wooden stair, until the small harbour of Azenha do Mar. A rope helps to cross the valley. As soon as you are on top of the cliffs, the path gets sandy, crossing a dune area. 3 kilometer later you reach the estuary of the Odeceixe river. To reach the village, you need 3 more kilometers unless you decide (as we did) to go back to Azenha do Mar, to have another great seafood dinner !
