Wissant is centrally located on the Opal Coast, in the middle of Cap Gris-Nez and Cap Blanc nez. It is a quiet coastal village with a long promenade, numerous villa's / holiday homes and a small cozy center around the church with some restaurants and bars. The name Wissant (White Sand) refers of course to the color of the cliffs nearby beach and also indicates a 'Flemish' connection.
On your walk between the two capes it is the perfect stopping point. From Wissant you can also easily make a back and forth walk to one of the two capes, where you can choose between the water line and the dunes or cliffs.
Between Wissant and Cap Gris Nez runs the Circuit du Fartz, a walk through the nature reserve that lies behind the first row of dunes. The walk starts at the tourist office (at the church of Wissant). Take the rue Carrier Belleuse and the Impasse Portus to get on the path. Then you just follow the signposts. You should definitely go to the 'la Motte du Bourg' parking lot vantage point, from where you have a beautiful view over the bay of Wissant.
