This beach resort, with a beautiful sandy beach, lies at the mouth of the Slack, north of an impressive dune area (les Dunes du Slack).
The beach is dominated by the fortress built by Vauban in the 17th century. It is the only one of its kind that has been preserved, partly due to the efforts of a number of private individuals.
In Ambleteuse, along the D940, you will find the museum 39-45. The museum was founded by 2 people with a passion for history: Denis Barbe and Christophe Deschodt. They collected thousands of objects and documents relating to the second world war. The museum testifies to the present and future generations of the sacrifice that millions of young people have brought into this terrible war.
The museum shows a hundred soldiers in complete equipment and thousands of objects. In a movie room of the 1940s, you get a half-hour display of archive footage from the war.
The museum is open daily from 1 April to 31 October from 10 am to 6 pm (7 pm in July and August). In March and November it is only open during the weekend.
