Cabo Girão, on the south coast of Madeira, two kilometres from the town Camara de Lobos, is best known for its sea cliff which has a height of 580 meters. The view is staggering.
In most brochures the cape is described as the second highest in Europe, but some research work has taught us that at least six are 6 higher, although not all six can be said to rise vertically from the sea, as the Cabo Girao does:
Follow the Levada do Norte Norte Boa from the hamlet, just outside of Ribeira Brava. Walk east to near Quinta Grande, always at an altitude of about 500 meters. There you go south to Cabo Girao.
