Lerici lies on the south side of the Golfo dei Poeti, with Portovenere on the other side. The city is dominated by a castle dating from the 13th and 14th century, but nevertheless still in good 'condition'. Inside you can find the Geo-Paleontologic museum.

San Terenzo is a small seaside resort between La Spezia and Lerici, with a sandy beach and some nice restaurants. From here you can along the promenade walk unto Lerici (completely flat walk), of course with beautiful views on the bay of La Spezia and on the opposite Portovenere, with the islands of Palmaria and Tinto.
The Regional Park of Montemarcello-Magra lies between the Gulf of La Spezia and the Valley of the Var. It was inaugured in 1995 as 'Regional Park'. Spread in the hills of the Park are 16 small villages, the most interesting being Ameglia, Montemarcello, Tellaro en Bocca di Magra. The hills reach a height of 400 meters.
Bocca di Magra, on the estuary of the Magra has a small port (on the right side of the river) and some beautiful sandy beaches (on the left side of the river). The river can be crossed using the small boat service.
