Velia is located on the coast of Cilento, a thirty kilometer below Agropoli. The town was founded in the 6th century BC and was both politically and economically important.
The archaeological site is dominated by a tower on a hill. The tower itself was built in the early Middle Ages on the ruins of the acropolis, the ancient Hellenistic temple.
The walk on the site is one kilometre long, with a short climb to the tower.
