Along the coast, to the north of Cinque Terre, a few more villages can be found : Levanto, Deiva Marina, ...

We stayed a few days in Deiva Marina, but due to end of season (end of september), it could not really seduce us anymore.

Going further north, will bring you to the mondain Portofino. We didn't even try it !

To the south of the Cinque Terre, a few cities worthwile. These can all be reached without problem by public transport (bus or train).

Sarzana

Sarzana

is a fortified city, along the river Magra. The historical centre is 'traffic free'. A high number of monuments testify from the rich history of the city

- Fortezza di Sarzanello (14th century)
- The Cittadel (15th century)
- The cathedral S. Maria Assunta
        (15th century)
- Chuch "S.Andrea" (10th-11th century)
Carrara marmer

Carrara

lies 20 kilometer to the south of La Spezia. It is mostly known for its marble quarries.

Carrara marble has been used since the time of ancient Rome. Monuments like the Pantheon and Trajan's Column are constructed of it. Michelangelo used it for his 'David'-statue.
