The only vehicle that qualifies for a thorough visit of Cilento is actually the car. For once we rent a convertible, and this was worth the extra cost. It seemed like we were cycling through the forests of the park or along the coasts: simply delicious!

Driving along the secondary roads and on the coastal road you must take into account that the average speed is about thirty kilometres per hour. But this allows you to quietly enjoy the landscape and surroundings.

If you want a quick way to traverse Cilento, then take the SP 430 in Agropoli; it is not a real highway, but it will take you to Palinuro in less than one hour (while through a small coastal road it takes three hours).

That the Italians are not very taken with the signs became apparent when we were on the coastal road from Palinuro to Velia and were suddenly confronted with the following situation: an unannounced road blockade, yielding us a beautiful detour of 15 km through the mountains behind.
